Exhibitions Reverse Imagining Vienna. Anthropogenic Mass and Its Speculative Futures
and: Energy at the Threshold of the Visible World, meeting point: Angewandte Interdisciplinary Lab, Georg-Coch-Platz 2, 1010 Wien

In REVERSE IMAGINING VIENNA two sculptors and nine writers took a Viennese Gründerzeit Building and the Prater Bridge, which crosses over to the Danube, as material and speculative anchors in which to gain perspective on sustainable relationships with inanimate matter. Referring to so-called reverse engineering, the two structures were deconstructed and recomposed in a historical, material-analytical, poetic and visionary way using reverse imagining.
The exhibition ENERGY AT THE THRESHOLD OF THE VISIBLE WORLD brings together the historical visualizations of energy along with the work of artists and architects reflecting on the colors, images and representations of energy.
Energy is a scientific concept, but also part of discourse and deeply related to power structures. To borrow the term from Donna Haraway, it is part of the ‘natureculture’ of the modern world; it can be studied historically while it is part of natural complexity and a description of a scalar physical quantity that can be measured, transformed and transferred. Entangled in the physical and the political, thermodynamic and metabolic, geologic and corporeal, extractive and renewable, landscapes and bodies, energy remains a part of the modern world that is particularly abstract and obscure.

Wilderness Alliances — Exhibition & Laboratory for Artistic and Performative Research in Interaction with Plants, meeting at Motherboard Art Space, Castellezgasse 36-38, 1020 Wien
special evening with the artists of Motherboard

WILDERNESS ALLIANCES is a MOTHERBOARD project that explores the relationship between humans, plants, and other vibrant entities. It is an immersive installation inspired by Hildegard von Bingen’s concept of Viriditas – The Greening Power, composed of various seeds, plants, soil, clay, and video works, responding to current challenges within our ecosystem.
The exhibition creates a space for artists, visitors, and plants to explore diverse relationships within social, ecological, and political structures. Encouraging research, reflection, and exchange among our fellow beings across species, in multiple formats such as SHARING SESSIONS, PERFORMANCES, and WORKSHOPS. Delving into questions about nature with its own rights, how to preserve the diverse array of plant species that contribute to the richness of our ecosystem, and how to detach from patriarchal structures, exploitation, and environmental destruction. Together, we cultivate a space for new ecological narratives regarding our relationship and interconnectedness with our home planet and its natural world.

Guided Tour for the Exhibition: Songs for the Changing Seasons
at the festival area Nordwestbahnstraße 16, 1200 Wien
/ Klima Commons Halle

Songs for the Changing Seasons brings together an international group of artists to reflect on the myriad ways, at once concrete and poetic, in which art is addressing the realities, effects and consequences of planetary transformation. Songs for the Changing Seasons considers forms of love, attention, repair and grief that meet with ecological challenges and damages. Assuming environmental transformation as a reality, the exhibition looks at where, when and how trouble is felt and expressed, and how art offers vital ways to articulate, interpret and cope with this trouble.

Wir bepflanzen Bach – Workshop & planting action with Wolfgang Palme (from the City Farm Augarten) at the festival area Nordwestbahnstraße 16, 1200 Wien

Since 2021, we have been investigating the urban climate and socio-spatial potential of urban watercourses. We are looking at existing and disappearing urban streams. In an interdisciplinary team, together with regional partners, we are researching hidden potential scientifically and experimentally. We want to make urban streams more visible, tangible and enjoyable again. We create flowing and climate-friendly urban open spaces. We experiment with streams to initiate sustainable change. We are ProBACH.
As part of the Vienna Climate Biennale 2024, “Wir probieren Bach” is using various stream typologies to explore the functions and effects of surface watercourses in an exemplary and experimental way. A transdisciplinary supporting programme accompanies the installation and enables researchers and visitors to work together. With “Wir probieren Bach”, they make an important joint contribution to the production of knowledge and understanding of urban streams.
